A New Band’s Guide to Getting the Right Live Sound

Filed under: Best Music, Better Tuition, Leisure + Recreation — @ 10:18 am

When you are a new band, playing live is nerve wracking enough without having to worry about the front of house sound. Surely it’s enough to be concerned about whether your finely crafted and highly practised material will stand up to public scrutiny, or if you’ll make a tube of yourself by falling off the stage in front of the gathered mass of friends and family.

Very important things both, but there are a number of simple things you can do to help yourselves and the sound engineer ensure you have the best possible sound coming through the PA. With that sorted you can worry less about the sound and more about whether you look like a tool in your new skinny jeans and winkle pickers.

First and most importantly arrive on time, en masse and fully equipped for your sound check. The sound check is as important as the live performance as this is the time the sound engineer will tune the PA system to get the best from your performance.

He will tweak the system to suit your style of music, vocals and tone as well as familiarise himself with your set-up and any requirements you may have that are slightly out of the ordinary. It’s no good showing to your first gig five minutes before you are due to go on with an unexpected twelve piece choir and full brass section and expect the engineer to accommodate them and get them sounding their best. No doubt he will do his best, but the sound may not be as good as it could be and your performance may suffer as a result.

Arriving on time will allow you to have a relaxed and thorough sound check, to solve any little problems that might come up and for you to familiarise yourselves with the venue and stage layout.

Scafell Rock Tents Review

Scafell Rock tents, a popular tents brand based in the UK, comes in two variants differentiated by the number of persons that they can accommodate. One variant is a tent meant for two persons, while the other can shelter 4 to 5 persons.

Scafell Rock Quick Pitch tent, which is the smaller model, requires negligible pitching effort. Although, the absence of an inner lining makes it damp from the inside, the problem can be easily solved if the door is kept slightly open. This tent can easily accommodate two people, but there may be a dearth of space if the occupants are carrying large backpacks.

The second variant is a family tent, and like its above mentioned counterpart, is very easy to pitch. It offers good horizontal and vertical space from the inside, and has two doors to offer better ventilation. This is a very important feature as a lack of ventilation with five persons inside the tent can be quite uncomfortable.

The poles of both these tents are made of strong fiberglass, which makes them considerably lighter in weight. They are easy to roll away and their multicoated fabric offers double protection from water, making them an excellent choice for a cloudy day.

The products can be purchased from several offline stores across the UK, including Gelert’s retail stores. You can also buy them from online stores, which also let you see the experience that other customers have had with these products.

With the Skiing Season Approaching It’s an Opportune Time to Look into Your Airport Transfer

Filed under: Hall Of Travel, Leisure + Recreation — @ 12:13 am

Should you need a taxi from Chamonix to Geneva, then this is the right place for you.

We provide an agreeable, reliable minibus transfer service between the airport in Geneva and Chamonix Mont Blanc France, ensuring a tailor made post to post ride.

The drivers have a good understanding of Chamonix Mont Blanc and the surrounding Mont Blanc ski areas.

It’s for this reason that we do provide transfers to the whole region, ie.: Morzine, Megeve, Le Tour as well as numerous other towns in the Alps.

We choose to use the Renault Trafic, an eight seater minibus for the bulk of the airport transfers.

The vehicles in our fleet are long wheel-based for more luggage load and are equipped with seat belts.

With the Renault Trafic we provide a professional, personal transfer service which is hard to better.

Don’t be concerned as we’re authorised and insured.

Our chauffeurs are registered and happily converse in French and English.

In a shared transfer, you will be put together in the transfer with fellow travelers who could be going to a different ski resort than your final destination.

Thus this entails a number of drop offs and could involve time waiting at Geneva airport prior to your transfer, and a marginally longer transfer trip.

A private transfer ensures an immediate departure from the airport with a direct route to the door of your destination.

Reactive Bowling Equipment Produce the Spin & Level the League

Filed under: Leisure + Recreation, Life Of Games — @ 6:56 am

You can’t deny bowling blossomed in the mid-90s, becoming a highly celebrated pass time. It may be no surprise the popularizationof bowling fueled sponsorships in bowling supplies from shoes to balls and bowling bags. Some bowlers have become celebrities in their own right, including the PBA allstars the media loves like Norm Duke, among the all-time bowling money leaders. More pop culture names in bowling include Richard Nixon (he installed a lane in the basement of the White House).

With the stunning growth in the viability of bowling and improvements in reactive bowling balls, the sport is increasingly about equipment. Not only that, but you’ll find there’s a lot more to quality bowling shoes than velcro. 21st Century bowling ball construction and lane oil has bowling balls hooking quite naturally, lowering the minimum finess required by a bowler to generate pin-busting power and curves. Beginner league bowlers who have fewer curving action might achieve plenty of energy with quality equipment like reactive bowling balls to knock over 10 pins with amazing consistency, lowering the bar for everyone. Surprisingly, building high spin on the bowling ball actually hurts your roll. Given brand name bowling balls, bowling shoes and a custom bowling ball bag, a bowler will get good at bowling consistently. Experiment until you discover the roll that’s best for you. Take a look at these considerations from the guys at bowling pro shop.

First and foremost, don’t try to hook before you have a sense for delivery. While you’re getting the hang of it, take a few tries with a 3-step, 4-step and 5-step approach. Whether you take 3 steps or 4 should be determined by a bowler’s leg span and how far back you start from the lane. Also remember, try not to let go of the bowling ball too early, wait till it has moved past your left foot. When done correctly, the ball should land smoothly out on the alley bed giving you improved direction. Last but not least, have a good time with your bowling practice. If you need help, ask a area bowling center to set you straight.

Number Three Topples Number One in NSC

Filed under: Leisure + Recreation, Sports — @ 11:07 am

Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan who ranks third in the national squash tally dominates over the number one player, Ivan Yuen in the NSC series with his Dunlop squash racket. The two players sit on top of the national ranking of junior squash players. Both have been in the running for the Professional Squash Players title that was up for grabs in the NSC Series number 7 tournament this week. The tournament was held in the National Squash Center in Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.

Ivan has an interesting history to his credit in his squash professional record. He places 98th in the world ranking. However, Ivan’s performances have repeatedly challenged this ranking. He stunned the public by defeating Jan Koukal from Czech Republic who is currently the top 50th in the world ranking. The match left spectators in awe as the two battled in out in a game that extended to fifty seven minutes. In the end, Ivan stood victorious with a 7-11, 7-11, 11-4, and 7-11 score. He recently won in the Super Satellite tour.

On the other side of the court, Nafiizwan places 55th in the world ranking. He recently bagged his very first PSA crown this year. His victory also included a cash price of USD 1083.

The event also gave way to the triumph of other players in the lower bracket of the national ranking. He is also recognized as the joint fifth-eight placer.

Ivan went through a rigorous training in Cairo since May. The two-month training was to prepare him for the NSC tournament which he anticipated to be a tough one. His loss came as a great disappointment for Ivan. He has been looking forward to have his first PSA title, and regrets failing to do so because of minor errors in his game. Nonetheless, Ivan goes back to his win over Koukal and recognizes it as his greatest win by far.

Because of the Depression a Lot of Skiing Businesses Are Reducing Their Amount of Luxury Catered Chalets

Filed under: Hall Of Travel, Leisure + Recreation — @ 4:28 pm

Due to the global recession ski accomodation reservations lowered this season.

Even with strong early season reservations along with superb skiing conditions.

These reductions in holidaymakers follows five seasons of sequential growth in the ski industry, and the numbers dropped from 1.05 million two seasons ago to 850000 last year.

Perhaps due to vacationers giving the season a miss, and other skiers who’d normally take two ski breaks, merely had one.

Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% and a handful low priced airlines reducing the no. of airplanes to certain airports.

Tour operators witnessed their reservations decreasing by about the same amount.

Notwithstanding, the top six operators market share continued at just over a healthy 70% and the Alps in France continued to remain the most visited destination with around 37% of holidays.

This meant that a lot of tour operators cut the total number of luxury chalets they operate this year.

The catered chalet markets in particular are going to witness a reduction in clients as a luxury catered chalet costs more in terms of chefs and rent if it is unsold.

It’s unlikely therefore we will benefit from the last minute special offers which were up for grabs this winter.

Prices are probably going to to rise, prices probably won’t go up considerably.

This season without doubt presents grievous challenges for the skiing industry that is affected by the consequences of the global recession, exchange rate pressures, soaring costs of fuel on top of large fixed costs for snowboarding holiday companies.

This winter snowboarders will be increasingly cost sensitive, which will contribute to a reversion of the trends of the last years that witnessed a growth in the ski industry.

[Large-scale tour operators could foreseeable re gain some of the customers lost to the independent sector if they utilise their buying-power to wrangle better costs and pass these savings onto consumers as appealing package deals.
